BETRAYAL: Young Americans for Liberty Executive Director Goes Full Woke and Betrays the Cause
The liberty movement has cratered.
Lauren Daugherty, the former Libertarian Party operative who was named Executive Director of the Young Americans for Liberty (YAL) last year, has gone full social justice warrior and veteran liberty activists are enraged as a result.
Kentucky-based liberty activist TJ Roberts made a Facebook post exposing some of Daugherty’s reprehensible opinions, which includes her lauding of the “courage” displayed by neoconservative Congresswoman Liz Cheney (R-WY) as well as her anguish over YAL mocking Vice President Kamala Harris because of her racial identity and gender.
Roberts also noted that Daugherty criticized anti-war posts made by YAL, repeating justifications for an interventionist foreign policy. In another email posted by Roberts, Daugherty whined after she was triggered by a Christmas card sent out by liberty champion, Congressman Thomas Massie (R-KY) featuring his family holding firearms.
"To those of us here on staff, we see [guns] as important tools for self protection and the protection of others. But some other people find guns VERY scary. Many of them see familiarity with them. Some other people find them scary because they know the damage that can be done with one,” Daugherty wrote in an email addressed to YAL staffers.
Paleolibertarian Mises Institute commentator Tho Bishop has also alleged that Daugherty is purging YAL of all Ron Paul libertarians in order to take the group in a more “woke” direction:
Liberty Conservative News reported on the possibility of YAL going in the wrong direction after the hiring of Daugherty in 2021:
“The Young Americans for Liberty (YAL) has named a former Libertarian Party executive director as their organization’s new leader.
YAL announced on Monday that Lauren Daugherty is the new Executive Director of their group effective immediately. She will be the successor of Cliff Maloney, who was deposed from the organization after women hurled unproven accusations of sexual impropriety against him earlier this year.
Their announcement can be seen here:
“She started her career climbing the ranks at the Leadership Institute and FreedomWorks, then becoming interim Executive Director and Director of Development at the national Libertarian Party, where she built their fundraising and operations capabilities,” YAL writes about Daugherty on their website.
“Lauren’s well-rounded background and exceptional leadership abilities bring a new chapter to YAL as we accelerate our trajectory for the future,” they add.
Daugherty has made it clear in the past that supporting the Libertarian Party is of the utmost importance to her.
“The rules right now are even more stacked against us than they ever were,” Daugherty said in 2016. “For example, the polling that determines whether we have the supposed 15 percent to get on that debate stage is not fair.’”
“The Libertarian party is here,” she added. “We’re a major party. We’re growing. We care about things that most voters care about: individual liberty and your ability to run your own life without government interference.”
Daugherty shilled for the Libertarians during a time in which they were betraying the cause and blowing all of the movement’s momentum that had been built by former Texas Congressman Ron Paul’s runs for the presidency in 2008 and 2012.“
YAL made a huge mistake by hiring a Libertarian Party activist as their executive director after folding to a #metoo witch hunt. Now, the organization will fade into much-deserved irrelevance and be supplanted by organizations that actually have the courage to stand for liberty.
As a former association executive director, executive directors can be hired and they can be fired...just fire her before she does more damage!
Bad enough we had to deal with RINOs, now we've got to deal with LINOs, too.
